art trail 17th-19th may 2024

10am-4pm

As part of my BA (Hons)Creative and therapeutic arts degree at the University of South Wales we created an art trail around the town centre of Pontypridd and Ynysangharad Park. We joined with different business around town and created artwork inspired by these wonderful venues. The art work engaged the community of Pontypridd and invited the public to engage once displayed. The exhibition not only showcased our work as artists, but also demonstrates our passion for supporting our community’s wellbeing, our ability to form meaningful connections. I picked to exhibit my work at Canolfan Calon Taf a beautiful space that gives out lots of opportunities as well as another student Rachel.

For the art trail, I have created an enchanted garden based on the Welsh folklore "The Invisible Door," with the help of Calon Taf. I ran two workshops to build different elements, The first painting these huge, beautiful butterflies with some of the children from Parc Lewis Primary School. The second was a lovely all-day workshop where many children and families came together to help me build a new place for all the park's resident creepy crawlies. We filled a large bug hotel with lots of foraged materials and welcomed the bugs with insect rock paintings. The day was full of sunshine, smiles and creativity. As you walk into the enchanted garden through my handmade archway, you will be greeted with two large magical wall hangings that I have crocheted and embroidered. I invite you to interact with this gently through touch. Throughout the garden there are miniature handmade houses scattered like delicate treasures waiting to be discovered. I have also created a soundscape for you to enjoy, where a very friendly fairy from the garden will tell you all about the story of “The Invisible Door”. I would like to thank Calon Taff for supporting me throughout this project, providing me with a place to run workshops and total creative freedom. Please take your time to step into this enchanted ethereal realm and explore its captivating wonders.
